construction of a Floating all-pox Hospital,

The New Naval Hospital for infectious

diseases is situated on Morrison Hill at a distance of 140

yards from the Naval Hospital, of 277 yards from a row of the

best class of European residences on the same level, with a

row of European houses built round the base of the hill on

the East, while close by on the West is a large Government

School with a Chapel of the Wesleyan Mission, the Wanchai

Market, and a dense population of Chinese. I attach a plan

of the neighbourhood illustrating the position and I have the

honour to request that the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty

be approached in order that this grave danger to the City be

avoided.
